Chapter 3 > Artifacts > Objects - Money as an object, a tool.

Salam and hi everyone,

Sorry it took me so long to update this page.

Just realized that it took me a while to comprehend the scale of complexity
for this project was beyond your average designer.

I'm your average designer.

Not an economist, a politician, a banker or in anyway involved in

influencing the value of money as a professional.

At least in it's purpose.

So, as an effective way for me to communicate best about 'Money'
is
building the research from the most immediate tangible way.

Money as an object, or a tool used for trading.

Just pure paper and metal.

Which means the closest way for me to understand my relationship with
money is through the design elements of what makes money, money.

The fact that a designer friend of mine shared with me his thoughts

about money is to him, opened my eyes to view money differently.

That the illusion of graphic design elements determines the numeric value

of a piece of paper by the material, color, font, artwork of
the paper / metal itself.

Geoffrey Cope, a numismatic collector said something that made me

realize the value of money is not in it's numeric value alone.

"Art in the form of coins is not only what we study,
but the emotion when we hold a piece of history"

Interesting, right?

You may agree, or disagree, but at this time of mankind history, Money

makes the world go round. For you to live without it is rather challenging.

The fact that 'Money' means differently to different people, is what
inspires me to explore the 'in-between relationship' people in majority
have with 'Money'.

Hopefully, through this process, we can refine, improve or at least make
people rethink their relationship 'Money' as an experiential / cultural tool
in today's civilization.

So, the exploration of 'Money' begins with the basic human tactile
experience, such as sight, touch, smell, taste, hear and feel.

It's been a hectic week to organize the information alone, so bear with me beginning this coming week. :)

Chapter 1 : Wonder > Narratives > Musings - Rethinking Relationships with Money.

"What was your personal experience
growing up with the idea of money?"

I want to explore and find out more if it has influenced how individuals perceive the idea or concept of money while growing up.

From my personal past experience, most family and friends were introduced to money as a reward. A form of performance based remuneration. Something that I find Dan Pink would disagree (maybe) in the idea of motivation.

Mine was entirely different.

My parents collectively agreed grooming us up with the dogma that the only true form of academic reward we'd get is education itself. As how my grandfather passed down the words of wisdom to my mom in Malay, "Yang pandai tu nanti engkau, kalau kau belajar pandai la engkau"

Well, though quite crass the manner of the language, we all agreed that hard work guarantees success. At least, on a personal basis.
*though at times we do get 'duit raya' (festive pocket money) just to have a taste of what money gets you.

So, in retrospect, working hard and money has no actual relationship.

Is that true?

Introduction to The Human Experience - MONEY.

Salam and good day,

The reason why I decided to do this project is because last year, 2013, was an amazing year of personal discovery. So many things has happened, hardly had time to reflect the entire year's journey, from paying debts, traveling, meeting people you've wanted for the longest time and so much more.

Purely inspired by life, in-between relationships, daily interactions & experience as a designer. Also, my hands pretty itchy to actually recreate myself as designer along this process.

The Human Experience, or will mostly be referred in the future as THE, is dedicated to those who have inspired me in my growth as a creative individual, through simple act of love and care in the experience.

I have prepared a long list of things to do in this project, in which would be endless for the next 3 months. From organizing information, to collecting data, reports and interviews, THE is a design project that I've found to be the most relevant to share my findings with my audience at this point in my personal life.

For the next 3 months, THE will explore the in-between relationships, daily interactions and experience of people and Money from three different categories. Wonder, Empathy and Artifacts.

Hence, for tonight, I will leave you to imagine or respond via social media to contribute your thoughts on the spirit of the times type of project.

Can you describe your relationship with money? What is your experience with money?

There's so much to explore, I tell you. ;P

It's 2014.

Have a good day ahead!
